Progression

We have an outstanding learning environment to ensure that you develop the knowledge, skills and values required to thrive academically and to progress to university or into employment.  Last year 100% of our A-Level students who applied for undergraduate places were successful.

Our A-Level students go on to study at universities such as Cambridge, York, Exeter, Newcastle and Durham. Some students choose to progress onto one of the wide range of full and part-time higher education programmes offered here at New College Durham.

We have an excellent relationship with universities and our students attend lectures and workshops in a university setting and visit higher education institutions, such as Oxford University, Cambridge University and Durham University, to help prepare for the next stage in their education journey.

A taste of university life

Our ASC (Advice Support Careers) team has links with local universities and arranges for visits to university open days, taster days, higher education conventions and careers fairs.

Some students participate in activities organised by local universities such as Evolve, which provides an introduction to university life.

Our students also take part in Supported Progression programmes delivered by Newcastle University and Durham University. These programmes are an excellent way to secure a conditional offer at a university and provides you with an opportunity to take part in Summer Schools, which will further strengthen your UCAS application.

Medicine is a popular pathway for our students and we offer the opportunity to participate in the Gateway to Medicine programme delivered by Durham University and Newcastle University, which offers eligible students a conditional offer to study medicine.
