Special Educational Needs and Additional Learning Support (Local Offer)
At New College Durham we aim to create outstanding futures for all our students and we do this in a number of ways. We offer an extensive foundation learning curriculum, with specialist teaching and support staff for learners with a range of specific and general learning difficulties and/or disabilities. In addition to this, our broad curriculum can be accessed by all learners with appropriate support, help and guidance to meet the students’ individual needs. We have courses ranging from Entry Level 1 to Degree Level.
The College has an applications policy and procedure. Our Information and Guidance (IAG) events offer students the opportunity to view the College and its facilities before applying for a course.
If you are unsure about what you want to do or need further support, or qualifications, before taking the next step we can offer you a range of courses with various levels to suit your requirements.
All full time 16-18 year old students will follow a Study Programme which consists of a subject specific qualification, maths and english, preparation for work or Higher Education and enrichment.
A range of assessment techniques are available to students with additional support needs.
The College has Support Co-ordinators who are responsible for Learning Support, who work across the Curriculum and in conjunction with the vocational staff to ensure all students have access to support as required.
