New College Durham hosts Higher Education Open Day

On Saturday 3 November, New College Durham is hosting a Higher Education (HE) Open Day, offering prospective students the chance to find out about the College’s range of programmes. The College offers over 50 different HE qualifications including HNCs and HNDs, foundation degrees, honours degrees, professional qualifications and higher apprenticeships.

Visitors will have the opportunity to learn more about the range of courses on offer, explore the College’s outstanding teaching facilities and meet current students and academic staff. Prospective part-time and mature students can find out about the College’s flexible ways to gain higher level qualifications as most of the College’s HE programmes can be studied on a full or part-time basis allowing students to fit studies around family and work commitments. The Advice, Support and Careers team will also be on hand to answer any questions that you might have about entry requirements, student finance or support.

Mo Dixon, Vice Principal Higher Education and Inclusion, said: “The open day is a brilliant opportunity to find out more about our Higher Education, Management and Professional provision and what makes us really unique as an institution. Our small class sizes, range of support services, highly qualified lecturers and extensive links with employers make the College a great place to achieve and progress.”

In June 2018, New College Durham achieved silver standard in the Teaching Excellence Student Outcomes Framework (TESoF) more commonly known as TEF, which recognises high quality teaching in higher education. In the feedback by the panel, New College were commended for their personalised approach to learning.

The College is also one of a small number of colleges to have been granted Foundation Degree Awarding Powers. This means that it can design its own foundation degrees which are tailored to the needs of local businesses.

Mo Dixon continues: “the open day is a great way to find out how you could progress your career. Whether you are in your final year at college or sixth form, already working and looking to gain a formal qualification in your current field, or if you are looking for a total career change – come along to the event and find out how you could achieve your career aspirations. If you are a mature student returning to education, and you don’t hold a Level 3 qualification, you can also find out about our Access to HE course at the event.”

The event takes place at New College Durham’s Framwellgate Moor campus from 10am until 12 noon. You can pre-register for the Open Day to beat the queues.
