Travel scheme will travel the distance for college students
New College Durham will once again support local students with travel to the College through our travel scheme. The scheme means that full time students aged between 16 to 19, who live more than 3 miles away from the College, will be able to travel using local bus networks.
The College works in partnership with Go North East and Arriva bus services to ensure that students can access the College. New College Durham have identified this as an important lifeline for students so the College will continue to invest in travel, despite financial pressure on the sector.
John Widdowson, Principal and Chief Executive, commented:
“Despite the serious funding and financial challenges FE colleges are experiencing currently, we will continue to support travel for our students. We will pledge to continue our investment into the travel scheme for the 2018-19 academic year.
“Through the scheme we can ensure young people from across the region can access a quality college education at New College Durham and gain the skills and qualifications they need to progress or gain employment. We have always received extremely positive feedback from students, many of who would not be able to attend the College, if the travel scheme wasn’t available.”
Students aged 16 or over but under 19 at 31 August 2018 enrolled on a full-time course as defined by New College Durham and live at least 3 miles from the College will qualify for travel support.
