Describe your academic experience:
I studied at Northumbria University in Business and Marketing Management. Following this, I then went on to study my PGCE and the completed CIM Level 5 in Marketing.
Describe your experience working in industry/the workplace:
I have owned and ran my own business for 10 years. I was a customer service trainer for Mothercare and I have worked in retail and hospitality management.
Describe your role at New College Durham:
From attending meetings to performance management of staff, planning curriculum both in FE and HE as well as dealing with employers as part of the apprenticeships. I also teach across Level 3, 4 and 5.
Why did you decide to teach at New College Durham?
New College Durham always had a great reputation even in other colleges and I would always look at opportunities to move here. When the time was right I applied and luckily gained a position here.
What is the best part of your job?
Meeting with interesting people, from staff to students and employees. We have some of the most entrepreneurial and innovative students who get the opportunity to work with some of the best local and national employees.
What are your research areas/interests?
Buyer/customer behaviour - I am interested in what motivates people to choose a certain path, buy a certain product.
What has been your best moment at New College Durham?
Business Enterprise Day - every year we host an event for business owners, entrepreneurs and employers to attend college and share their knowledge and experience with our students. It is great to see students engage with real-life successful business people.
What inspires you?
Positive people who support and motivate each other whether it is staff or students it is great to see collaboration.
The dynamic and growing business and management industry is vast.
