Course: BSc (Hons) Podiatry
Previous school: Emmanuel College
Jane was interested in pursuing a career as a podiatrist and recognised New College Durham as one of the only providers of the programme in the North East.
“I was delighted when I discovered New College Durham offered a bachelor’s degree in podiatry. The structure of the course really appealed to me, especially with knowing I would get real hands-on experience working in the College’s podiatry clinics.
“The classes were small but I found this came as an advantage as they made the lessons more relaxed. It was a fantastic environment to learn in and the lessons were always very engaging. The facilities were great too! I really liked the fact there was a separate building purposefully built for higher education students. The range of resources in the library was impressive, it was definitely well-stocked and the librarians were always on hand to help.
“I wanted to gain the skills I needed to secure a career as a podiatrist for life. It was a subject I was really interested in and it was lovely to see the tutors shared this same passion. I had the fantastic opportunity to visit Singapore where I was able to further my scope of knowledge within another culture. I also did a placement in Newcastle where I gained invaluable experience with the NHS.
“I am now working for North Tees and Hartlepool NHS Trust as a podiatrist – I hope to progress within the NHS.”
Jane secured full-time employment with North Tees and Hartlepool NHS Trust as a podiatrist.
