The English Language Centre
The English Language Centre at New College Durham works with students from all over the world. Courses are taught by very experienced teachers who have themselves lived and worked in many different countries. All of the teachers are subject specialists and we are proud of our highly skilled and experienced staff.
There are 2 departments in the School: EFL and ESOL.
EFL is English as a Foreign Language. These courses are designed for people who plan to use English internationally. Some students need English for work in their own countries and some students want to improve their academic skills for studying in English. We offer short and long courses throughout the year.
ESOL is English for Speakers of Other Languages. ESOL students live and work in the UK and need to use English in everyday situations. These courses are funded by the UK government. Some students pay a small fee and some students are free (when you apply we can advise you if you have to pay). ESOL courses run from September to June, but you can sometimes start and finish at different times (we will advise you when you apply).
Let us help you take your next step in life, work and study with our flexible ESOL and EFL programmes.

Our English Language Centre students have gone on to do great things.
If English is not your first language then our ESOL courses will help you develop your speaking, listening, reading and writing skills.
