Hairdressing apprentice makes the cut as Senior Stylist
Georgia Medland celebrates new Senior Stylist role just two years after completing her Level 3 Hairdressing apprenticeship at New College Durham.
Having worked as the Saturday girl at The Salon in Langley Park, Georgia knew she was passionate about hairdressing and wanted to take the next step in her journey. With the support of The Salon, Georgia applied to join our Level 2 Hairdressing apprenticeship programme. She loved the fact she could continue working at The Salon, whilst developing her skills and gaining a nationally recognised qualification at college.
Georgia completed her Level 2 and Level 3 Hairdressing qualifications at New College Durham, she said: “During my two years at New College Durham, I was provided with many opportunities to advance my skills and to reach my full potential. I took part in the World Skills hairdressing competition in Liverpool and secured first place.”
Georgia was the first apprentice from New College Durham to get through to the World Skills UK Northern heats in hairdressing. She competed in the following categories: long hair styling, gents cut and blow dry and cut and colouring techniques. The team at The Salon were ecstatic and said they had every faith in Georgia to win.
Georgia has demonstrated outstanding hairdressing skills and is able to work under pressure to strict timelines. Her commitment and achievements were recognised as she was awarded Apprentice of the Year for two consecutive years.
Georgia continues: “Most recently, I have been promoted to Senior Stylist at The Salon. I am over the moon and couldn’t have done it without Alan, Michael, Patrick and my tutors at New College.”
Michael and Alan, owners of The Salon, commented: “Georgia is absolutely amazing at what she does. We couldn’t be any prouder of the outstanding Senior Stylist our GeeGee has become!”
