International Women’s Day 2019
Our Library team developed a competition to celebrate successful and notable women from the North East. The display aimed to inform students and make them think about the issue around blue plaques, statues and similar commemorative items.
The competition involved answering 15 questions about successful women from the North East and required scanning QR codes to answer each question. The winner received a £50 gift voucher on Friday 15 March.
The Library also created a discussion board to address the issue of only 13% of blue plaques being dedicated to women. The panel encouraged students to share their thoughts on a post-it.
Mike Dann, Learning Resources Manager, commented: “We hope the activity successfully shows our students, particularly our female students, that there are some great role models from our region, from the past as well as the present.”
