NUFC Football Development team celebrates derby win at home

Our Newcastle Utd ‘B’ Football Development Centre team were at home yesterday in the EFL Trust Cup.

The match was a great spectacle of football with both sides playing controlled and creative football.

Newcastle created numerous opportunities in the opening minutes. Against the run of play, they found themselves 0-1 down, however, they dug in and worked really hard to get themselves back into the game.

The come-back began when Finley Hope put a fantastic cross into the box for Joe Williams to equalise on 39 minutes.

The second half saw Newcastle continue where they’d left off in the first half and within 10 minutes Sam McKeller pounced onto a loose pass, crossing it perfectly to Dean Metters. Dean duly smashed his shot into the roof of the net taking Newcastle into a 2-1 lead. His reward for the goal and his all round performance rightly earned him the Man of the Match award.

Newcastle continued to control the game when in possession and defended competitively as a team out of possession. Newcastle pressed well and got their rewards when Joe Williams forced an error from the Sunderland goalkeeper whose misplaced pass fell kindly to Sam McKeller who calmly slotted the ball into the goal, sealing a well deserved victory.

Newcastle wins 3-1 which sets them up nicely to play Rotherham away on 11 November.

Next League Fixture:

Wednesday, 21 October, 1pm KO, Barnsley ‘B’ v Newcastle Utd ‘B’.
