Public services students plan residential trip
Our FdA Public & Community Services students were buzzing to get back to exploring in the great outdoors for their first activity management residential trip, planned by our second year degree students.
This unique and practical element of the course offers the perfect opportunity for each group to practice team building and leadership skills, amongst developing other fundamental skills. From mountain biking to ghyll scrambling, our adrenaline fuelled degree shapes our students and builds their resilience and confidence so they are prepared to move mountains in their future careers in the public & community services sector.
James Roche, Level 5 FdA Public & Community Services student, said:
“The residential trip was an unforgettable experience that pushed me out of my comfort zone and built my confidence. I participated in exciting and challenging activities, such as ghyll scrambling. The enthusiasm and knowledge of our lecturers, especially Alex and Andy, was encouraging and added to the enjoyment of the trip. Helping to plan the trip took time but was so worth it to put my skills into practice and help me to prepare for a role in public services.”
Alex Talks, Programme Leader, commented:
“Working in a public or community service requires more than academic skills so our degree programme ensures students are able to put all of the theories they learn into practice. Teamwork, leadership, sociology, psychology, Health and Safety are the foundations of knowledge and skills developed – they are combined with a healthy mix of excitement and adrenalin for our students to see the importance of supporting their community, the benefits of exercise in nature and how to expand their comfort zones in an adventurous environment. We want our students to graduate feeling inspired and knowing they can achieve anything.”
We can’t wait to see what they get up to next!
Our degree in public and community services will provide you with transferable skills, leadership experience and knowledge to prepare you for a range of careers .
