New College Durham Hosts Lumiere 2019 Launch
Key figures from Durham businesses, local dignitaries and event sponsors gathered at New College Durham to celebrate the launch of this year’s Lumiere festival.
As 2019 marks the 10th anniversary of Lumiere in Durham, a special edition of the festival will feature a selection of favourite artworks from the past 10 years of the event, alongside exciting new commissions and community projects.
Visitors to the launch party enjoyed a sneak preview of the installations which will be illuminating the city from the 14 – 17 November. Artist Anthony Rowe, whose work will be on display during the festival, was on hand to speak about his installation. Durham Distillery treated guests to commemorative cocktails created especially for Lumiere.
Artichoke events, the producers of the Lumiere festival, and New College Durham worked in partnership to host the launch, with students from the College meeting and greeting guests, preparing and serving canapes, and capturing video and photography of the event.
John Widdowson, Principal and Chief Executive of New College Durham, said: “We are proud to be a part of Lumiere. It is a fantastic example of Durham Powered by People; with Durham County Council and Artichoke working together for 10 years, the businesses and organisations who sponsor and support the event, the volunteers who play such an important role during the festival and the people who flock to see it. It brings the city alive and full of light during a few nights in November.”
A huge thank you to our Level 3 Media and Foundation Degree Film & Media Production students who captured the event. Check out their video below and scroll through the images to see the highlights of the evening.
