Finance/Admin Apprentice

Context of the role:

  • The Finance team forms part of corporate resources directorate and is responsible for the effective control and management of financial and performance information.

Key responsibilities and duties:

This is an apprenticeship role whereby the individual will be expected to carry out the following tasks with the on-going training and support of their line manager and colleagues. 

  • To provide general clerical support to the Finance Team as required, including sorting the post, scanning, photocopying, electronic filing, checking of data, proof reading documents and the provision of reception cover.
  • To provide assistance and support to requisitioners across the Service, processing approved requisitions in Oracle to generate purchase orders for goods and services. To monitor and pursue late deliveries and expedite incomplete orders.
  • To check and verify order and non-order invoices before assisting with the processing for payment within agreed credit terms ensuring accountancy rules are applied and the checking of statements
  • To assist the procurement clerk in processing purchase orders and sourcing goods and services adhering to financial regulations and procurement legislation.
  • To assist the Finance Officer with pension related queries by checking data and calculations as required.
  • To assist the Finance Clerks with payroll related queries by checking data and calculations as required.
  • To assist in the completion of statistical returns and the collation of performance data including the running of reports.
  • To maintain the Finance Inbox on Outlook and forward emails to the relevant person in a timely manner.
  • To maintain accurate records and information, using both manual and computerised systems.
  • To develop and maintain effective working relationships with the line managers, colleagues and staff across the Service, and with trade unions and other relevant external contacts.
  • To assist in meeting any office deadlines as required e.g. invoice related tasks, raising debtor accounts, payroll related tasks and procurement related queries.
  • The areas of responsibility associated with a particular post may be amended from time to time, and where possible, consultation will take place prior to the change.  It is expected that the postholder will operate flexibly in any location and undertake any other tasks and projects which could reasonably be expected of someone holding this grade, including assisting other sections as required, commensurate with the grade or of a lower grade.

Hours of work: 

  • 37 hours per week, worked over 5 days, Monday to Friday. 

Salary: 

  • Current apprenticeship rates as per Gov.UK guidelines - £6.40 per hour / £12,313 p.a.

  • Training

    • You will be enrolled onto a Level 2 Advanced Apprenticeship - A A T Assistant Accountant 
    • You will attend New College Durham one day per week 
    • You will have on going training and support from C D D F R S
