Age 16-18

FREE (If meet residency criteria and not enrolled at another educational institution).

If you are aged 16, 17 or 18 on 31 August in the year you begin your course, not enrolled at another educational institution and have been resident in the UK for the past 3 years, your course will be FREE. Some courses will have other costs associated, such as for materials and trips.

Age 19+

If you are aged 19 or older on 31 August in the year you begin your course, not enrolled at another educational institution and have been resident in the UK for the past 3 years, your course could be free dependant on the level of the course and your eligibility criteria. Develop the skills and knowledge needed to work in the plumbing industry.Learn plumbing processes, health and safety and industry practices and how to install and maintain central heating and sanitation and drainage systems.

Entry Criteria

You will hold a grade 4 in maths and English at GCSE or hold a Level 1 Diploma in Plumbing.

Additional Costs

You will need safety boots, trousers, overalls and stationery.

Study Aims

This plumbing course aims to provide you with the skills and knowledge needed to install plumbing systems. It will also cover Health and Safety and Environmental Technologies elements.This Level 2 course is designed to prepare you with the vital skills and hands-on experience needed to progress to a Level 3 apprenticeship programme or to gain employment in the industry.

Modules Studied

The plumbing qualification will help you gain an understanding of the skills required within the plumbing sector. You will study the following plumbing modules:

  • Health and Safety and Industry Practices
  • Plumbing Processes
  • Electrical and Scientific Principles
  • Cold water
  • Hot Water
  • Central Heating
  • Sanitation and Drainage

Teaching and Assessment

Our plumbing workshop offers a realistic working environment, fitted with industry standard equipment.To complete this qualification, you must successfully achieve the following assessments:

  • One externally set, externally moderated synoptic assignment
  • One externally set, externally marked exam, sat under examination conditions.
You will benefit from regular assessments to track your progress and to prepare you for the final synoptic and theory end tests.

Our links will allow you to gain a deeper insight into the industry through guest speakers, visits to industry, and local and national plumbing competitions.

Placement

You will benefit from employer involvement and will take part in at least one of the following:

  • A structured work-experience or work-placement to develop skills and knowledge relevant to the qualification
  • Undertake projects, exercises, assessments and/or examinations set with input from industry practitioners
  • Complete one or more units delivered or co-delivered by an industry practitioners (masterclasses/guest lectures)
Industry practitioners will operate as ‘expert witnesses’ that contribute to the assessment of your work or practice, operating within a specified assessment framework.
