In work Skills CPD Module for Construction Professionals (Level 4)
This course will upskill people working in the construction industry with the latest digital skills for the sector. It will give you the skills and knowledge to enable you to explore the range of concepts, approaches, tools and techniques that are applicable to BIM and the construction industry.
This course is FREE for those employed within the construction industry in the North East.
Course duration: 50 hours.
36 hours face to face learning alongside 14 hours End Assessment for your final Project.

Course Overview
Immersing students in the virtual digital construction world, the programme will give students:
- a full overview in the requirements to be BIM compliant (ISO 19650)
- basic awareness of the types of digital information that is needed for a final built asset
- additional design software skills
- introduction to AutoDesk AutoCAD and REVIT the current primary software used in the UK construction industry to facilitate the delivery of BIM projects
- ability to use a range of tools, techniques and methods within REVIT to prepare a BIM model for a small residential house to a medium sized commercial building
- experience developing 3D objects (e.g. wall, floor, roof) to create a full 3D BIM model, to form the basis to solve design problems as well as further simulation and analysis e.g. costing a project
In addition, the course will provide the opportunity to develop:

- presentation and public-speaking skills
- report and proposal writing skills
During this course students will be encouraged to work collaboratively with fellow students and to apply what learning in a work environment.
The course been designed as a digital construction curriculum that will address the gaps that the construction industry is currently experiencing. The partnership developing the programme includes: Esh Group, Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB), The BIM Academy, Kier, Tilbury Douglas, BIM73, Howarth Litchfield, Costain and Jacobs.
On completion of the course, you will be able to build simple 2D/3D models within an immersive virtual environment; and recognise and identify the needs of digital information and workflows within construction.
It will be delivered using a variety of methods including self-study, attendance at college and distance learning and online learning.
The course will cover the following modules:
- Construction Information – types of information within a project
- Graphical-Digital Information – types and Software to support a digital model
- BIM Overview – An introduction, operations and health & safety
- Digital information/formats/methods
- Standards and policies
- Implementation
Assessment will be via a presentation, practical use of computer aided design tasks and a research and report task to benefit the employer.
20% of the final grade will require attendance in college to complete an assessment in class. The final 80% will be project related that could be completed in the workplace.
