New College Durham has been awarded the licence to operate as the North East Institute of Technology, one of only 12 in the country.

An Institute of Technology (IoT) is a collaboration between further education (FE) providers, universities and employers.
As an IoT, New College Durham will specialise in delivering higher technical education (at Level 4 and 5) with a focus on STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) subjects, such as engineering, digital and construction.
New College Durham will provide students with a clear route to technical employment, and employers with a skilled workforce.

New College Durham is the North East’s IoT anchor Further Education partner and lead applicant, with Newcastle University as Higher Education anchor and research partner.
New College Durham developed the proposal with key regional employers, including Nissan Motor Manufacturing (UK) and Esh Group. Nissan and Esh Group are anchor employers for Advanced Manufacturing and Construction and the Built Environment respectively.
