BSc (Hons) Podiatry

“Not only did New College Durham offer the course that I was interested in, but the reviews were of a high standard and the location was great – it was so fortunate the College was one of the only Schools of Podiatry in the North East.

Chris said he was really interested in studying podiatry.

He said:

“The course offered great theoretical learning and a wealth of practical experience within the Bishop Auckland and Low Carrs clinics. I was also very grateful to gain a work placement with the North Tees and Hartlepool NHS Foundation Trust and was impressed by the support and advice offered by my clinical educator – this increased my confidence no end. I was able to gain in-depth knowledge of a wide range of medical conditions, which can affect a person’s behaviour, communication and mobility. Undoubtedly, this knowledge and real-life experience prepared me for dealing with patients suffering with dementia, a condition that we regularly came across as Podiatrists.

“I would highly recommend the course at New College Durham because I don’t believe I would have got the same experience and developed the same variety of skills elsewhere. The lecturers were also fantastic, and they offered outstanding help and support throughout each year of the course.

“The resources and library facilities certainly helped me to successfully achieve my first-class honours degree. It was the perfect time for me to embark on a new career that I am passionate about, and I am so glad I took the plunge with New College Durham.

“Just two days after graduating, I immediately secured a full-time role as a Podiatrist in what is now my own business. I treat both private and NHS patients in clinic, on home visits and in numerous care homes throughout the region. The clinic is thriving and continuing to grow at a rapid rate, and I am now looking forward to expanding the business in the near future.

“I enjoyed my time so much at New College Durham that I have been back since graduating to deliver talks to the current final year students. I intend to work with the College to provide further placement programmes for prospective podiatrists in the future.”
