"I decided NCD was the place for me after a visit with my secondary school. I liked the idea of being treated as an adult and being able to gain my own independence in my studies."

Jade said she decided to study at New College Durham after a visit with her secondary school.

She said:

“The staff in the Sixth Form Centre really stood out to me and I loved the campus, it played a large role in the final decision of where I wanted to study. The atmosphere was very diverse and there were a lot of facilities available to students, including the gym, hair salon and restaurant, as well as a Starbucks and Costa.

“I found that I was given a lot of support and positive encouragement from all of the staff, even those who didn't teach me. I received excellent and regular feedback from my tutors – it was always constructive and really helped me to gain a stronger understanding of the content that I was being taught. This all gave me an extra boost of confidence to succeed.

“There were lots of opportunities to partake in work experience which I found really helpful. I also enjoyed taking part in charity events which gave me a sense of accomplishment which went beyond academic.

“Studying at New College Durham made me fall in love with Psychology and gave me the confidence and passion to study it at university. The support from my tutors, as well as the amazing PLC service, allowed me to create a plan for my progression which really motivated me to succeed.

“I am currently studying BSc Psychology at York St John University. I hope to continue studying Psychology post-graduate.”
