If you are interested in studying A Levels at New College Durham please just complete one application form and you will be able to choose your subjects once you have had your interview. You do not need to apply for each of the subjects you are interested.
This exciting and challenging subject will give you the opportunity to develop an in-depth understanding of physical and human geography, the complexity of people and environment questions and issues, and to become a critical, reflective and independent learner. We offer an issues-based approach to studying geography, enabling you to explore and evaluate contemporary geographical questions and issues such as the consequences of globalisation, responses to hazards, water insecurity and climate change.
This will be complemented by a range of fieldtrips, which will enhance your understanding of the processes that shape our cities and coastal landscapes.
Entry Criteria
You will hold five GCSEs at grade 9-4, including English Language at grade 5 and maths at grade 4.
Ideally, you will hold grade 4 or above in GCSE Geography but this is not essential.

This A-Level, in combination with other subjects, could enable you to apply for degree courses in Archaeology, Teacher Training, Environmental Science, Geography, Geology, or Planning.Career opportunities are varied, from Meteorology to Environmental Management, Town Planning to Mineral Exploration and any other vocation that requires an ability to organise and present information in a coherent way.
