If you are aged 16, 17 or 18 on 31 August in the year you begin your course, not enrolled at another educational institution and have been resident in the UK for the past 3 years, your course will be FREE. Some courses will have other costs associated, such as for materials and trips.

If you are aged 19 or older on 31 August in the year you begin your course, not enrolled at another educational institution and have been resident in the UK for the past 3 years, your course could be free dependant on the level of the course and your eligibility criteria. Student Finance

If you are aged 19 or over and not eligible to get your course free, you could apply for an Advanced Learner Loan from the Student Loans Company to help towards the cost of some, or all, of your fees. If the amount of Advanced Learner Loan available to you is less than the Advanced Learner Loan Fee for your course, you would need to pay the difference. This Level 3 Fine Art course offers the opportunity to study a variety of exciting specialist art movements. The content of the course focuses on the exploration and development of fundamental skills, whilst looking at historical, cultural and contextual influences of numerous creative elements within art and design disciplines. You will work with a wide range of intricate techniques and processes to develop innovative ideas and concepts for visual communication. You will also get the opportunity to explore design methods, multi-disciplinary work and contextual studies.

This course involves substantial written analysis and evaluation of art through time and peer crits to discuss individual outcomes in depth with practical sessions and exciting projects where you can explore and express your creativity and individual style. We hope to visit European cities to see first hand the impact art has on the world and inspire your own creative flare.

Entry Criteria

You will hold a minimum of four GCSEs at grades 4 (or above). This will include maths and English, as well as an art & design and/or design & technology qualification.

Additional Costs

You will be asked to make a contribution of £30 at the beginning of the academic year to help cover equipment, resources, trips and visits.

You will meet with one of the course team who will discuss the course in detail with you and answer any queries you may have to ensure this is the right course for you; please bring a current portfolio of your creative art and design work to discuss.

Times of Delivery

You will be timetabled for taught lectures, workshops and course related activities for 2.5 days per week, we will aim to condense these days to allow you to have the flexibility for external commitments. However, it is expected that you complete any tasks set at tome outside of timetabled hours.

Teaching and Assessment

You will be fully supported throughout the programme. Teaching and assessment will consist of practical work, creative workshops, studio practice, live projects, research skills, personal development , lectures and trips/visits.

You will be assessed through completion of a portfolio, presentations, team work activities, tutorials and written assignments.

Alongside developing a good grounding of basic art and design skills, you will be encouraged to explore and develop more experimental strategies to enhance your creativity in all assignments. You will take part in a number of innovative practical and written assignments and will be advised on how you could improve. Formative feedback will be an integral part of your learning and progression and will include practical and written assessments, critiques, presentations and one-to-one tutorials. You will have a supportive team of art and design staff to assist you throughout the programme. Our objective is to prepare you with a sound basis for your future career.

Placement

Your tutors will have first-hand experience of the industry and will continue to build links with other industry professionals. We already hold strong links which will be introduced to you throughout the duration of the course for live briefs, guest speakers and placements.

We work collaboratively with industry and have a dedicated Work Experience team who will support you to find work experience opportunities and placements. We will also support you to source your own placements.

Placement opportunities and live client briefs will provide you with an insight into how the industry operates and how your skills will be applied in the world of work.
