This course is aimed for people aged 19 years or over.

This programme is delivered face-to-face in the New College Durham University Centre.

GCSE Grade 4 or above in English and maths, or Functional Skills Level 2

Additional Costs

You must purchase a CIPD membership at the start of the programme as this is an essential requirement to be able to complete the course. CIPD may withhold your certificate on completion if you do not hold a membership.

Study Aims

The primary purpose of this CIPD qualification is to develop your knowledge and skills of people practice, to help you to build your expertise and to inspire you to undertake tactical tasks that deliver value.

This course will develop your confidence and knowledge to allow you to contribute to an organisation, supporting change and driving impact.

You will gain an advanced understanding of people practice and the HR profession, and will learn how to apply this to the world of work.

This Level 3 Certificate in People Practice (CIPD) professional qualification is based on the CIPD Profession Map. The Map was launched in 2018, having been developed in collaboration with a wide range of experts working at the heart of the profession. It sets the international benchmark for the people profession and provides a strong foundation to provide you with the confidence and capabilities to guide decision-making, actions and behaviours.

Modules Studied

Topics studied typically include the following – modules are subject to change by the course team:

  • Business, Culture and Change
  • Principles of Analytics
  • Core Behaviours for People Professionals
  • Essentials of People Practice

Teaching and Assessment

This programme is delivered face-to-face once a week on site at New College Durham.

Each session includes taught theory and seminar activities. The sessions are inclusive and develop your knowledge and practice of being a people practitioner.

Sessions are interactive so you can apply the theory into practice. Each unit has an assessment which has been designed and written by CIPD.

Industry Links

We have links with the CIPD North East Branch - you will be encouraged to attend at least one of their events per academic year. These are based in the region and provide excellent support and advice, usually free of change.

We also have strong industry links with ACAS, CIPD and professional organisations who may come in and deliver guest speaker slots throughout the programme.
