This short course aims to enable podiatrists to develop the knowledge and skills necessary to gain annotation in Prescription Only Medicine Sale and Supply (POM-S) for use in their clinical practice when registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).

The course comprises an overview of the common drugs used in the management of commonly seen podiatric infections and disease, considering the potential interactions with medically prescribed drugs and the role of the podiatrist in the evaluation of patients’ pharmacological management. Detailed consideration will be given to the pharmacological management of disease intrinsic to the lower limb; bacterial infection, chronic illnesses such as diabetes and rheumatoid arthritis, neurological dysfunction, vascular disease and skin conditions or those which have a significant influence on lower limb morbidity will be discussed.

Successful completion of this short course will lead to the annotation of POM-S on the Health and Care Professions Council register.
