If you are interested in studying A Levels at New College Durham please just complete one application form and you will be able to choose your subjects once you have had your interview. You do not need to apply for each of the subjects you are interested.
This applied science course is interactive and will include numerous excursions, practicals and assignments to both enhance and enrich your studies.
This course is entirely course work and you will have the opportunity to achieve D*D*, which is equivalent to 280 UCAS points. You will need to take one other A-Level alongside this course in order to meet the minimum entry requirements for university.
It is an interactive course with excursions, practical activities and assignments. You will complete the certificate in year one and the diploma in year two.

5 GCSEs at grade 4 or above, including English Language grade 5 or over, and maths grade 4 or over

Study Aims
This programme aims to enhance and enrich your knowledge and understanding of the health, education and science sectors. The programme will consist of three external assignments and five internal assignments. This programmes provides students with an interactive course to allow them to develop their science-based knowledge. You will take part in numerous excursions and practical and theoretical assignments.
Modules Studied
You will study the following units, plus two other optional units:
- Principals and applications of Science – section 1
- Practical Scientific Procedures and Techniques
- Science Investigation Skills
- Laboratory Techniques and their application
- Principals and applications of Science - section 2
- Investigative Project.
Teaching and Assessment
You will be taught by lecturers who are specialists in their subjects. Teaching is classroom based and involves group work and individual work. Independent study is essential outside of the classroom and frequent homework will be given. You will sit monthly in-class assessment for which you will receive extensive feedback, as well as other assessments throughout the academic year, which will help you track your progress. 2 of the 8 assignments have time constraints.
Placement
Work placements are an important part of the programme and all learners will be given assistance in finding a suitable position.
This qualification will help you to pursue careers in the health, education and science sectors.
