Individual employers will set the recruitment and selection criteria for their Apprenticeships. You will hold a Level 2 in maths and English (or equivalent).

Study Aims
This apprenticeship is perfect for you if you would like to progress within the sector as an engineering operative in fabrication and welding.You will be involved in engineering operations that are key to the success of the Manufacturing and Engineering sector. You will develop the relevant skills and knowledge to enhance the workforce of your employer.You will work as part of a team to carry out a range of engineering operations which include fabrication/installation of a wide variety of other sheet fabrications and equipment and fabrication, and assembly of metal parts using joining techniques.
Modules Studied
You will complete the following qualifications during the apprenticeship, including the modules detailed below.Level 2 Diploma in engineering operations (skills)

- Engineering techniques
- Engineering mathematics and science principles
- Fabrication and welding principles
- Business improvement techniques
- Manual welding techniques
- Producing components from metal plate.
Teaching and Assessment
The Knowledge Diploma will be delivered in college on a day release basis, consisting of lectures and practical workshop delivery, and will be assessed through a mixture of practical, written and online assessments.The Skills Diploma will be delivered in the workplace by your employer, assisted by a college Apprenticeship Skills Coordinator, and will be assessed by the completion of a portfolio of naturally occurring evidence, ASC observations and written underpinning knowledge assessments.You will also complete an End Point Assessment (EPA), completing the following elements:
- Practical observation – to assess your application of skills within your place of work, or in a suitable environment away from the workplace (e.g. In a centre approved by the EPAO)
- Professional discussion – to holistically assess KSBs across the standard - informed by reflective portfolio.
End Point Assessment
The final assessment for the qualification is an End Point Assessment (EPA) which must be passed to achieve the full qualification.
You could progress to a Level 3 in Engineering and Manufacturing, or a relevant Level 3 Advanced Apprenticeship.
