This course aims develop your skills, knowledge and behaviours to allow you to progress in the travel and tourism industry.
If you are interested in a career within the constantly evolving travel and tourism sector, this course will provide you with exciting opportunities to dive deeper into the careers that are available.
Entry Criteria
You will hold four GCSEs at grade 4 or above, including maths and English.
Additional Costs
You will be asked to contribute £30 at the start of the year for trips and visits.

Study Aims
This travel and tourism qualification is designed for you to develop the skills to work in the sector. The qualification will:
- Focus on the study of the travel and tourism sectors in a number of occupational areas
- Offer breadth and depth of study, incorporating a key core of knowledge, skills and understanding
- Provide opportunities to acquire a number of practical and work-related skills
The objectives of this qualification are to:
- Provide you with an in-depth understanding of the principles of the travel and tourism industry and allow you to explore the various avenues of work within this industry
- Allow you to gain transferable skills that can be applied to the workplace or further study
- Understand and develop the skills necessary to work within the travel and tourism industry
Modules Studied
You will complete three mandatory units and six optional units.

Teaching and Assessment
You will be assessed using the following methods:

In addition to qualified and experienced teaching staff, who will guide and prepare you for assessments, you will also have access to a Personal Learning Coach.

Placement
As part of the programme, you will be required to complete a two week work placement within the travel industry. This will be to gain skills and experience within the environment you will be training to work within.
You will benefit from guest speakers and opportunities to engage with businesses and employers to support your development and prepare you for work.
You could progress to the second year of our travel and tourism course. Beyond that, you could study FdA Tourism and Events Management at New College Durham or a relevant programme at university.
