Our Level 3 programmes provide UCAS points to provide a pathway into Higher Education, but through a practical and hands on approach to learning about business, leadership and management. You will develop and try out your new found skills through a mix of real and simulated activities that prepare you for working within a range of sectors. For budding innovators and entrepreneurs, there are lots of opportunities for you to hone your entrepreneurial spirit and acumen and take those first steps to becoming your own boss!This course is aimed at those who have a passion for business. It will provide you with a practical insight into the dynamic sector and you will explore business and improve your commercial awareness with a work placement.It will prepare you to progress to higher education, apprenticeships in the business sector or go into the world of work.
Entry Criteria
You will need to have gained a grade 4 or above in GCSE maths or English (or equivalent) and another 4 GCSEs, grade 4 or above.
Additional Costs
You will be asked to contribute £30 to participate in educational trips - this is optional.

Study Aims

Modules Studied
You will study the following modules:
- Personal and Business Finance (External Assessment)
- Developing Marketing Campaign (External Assessment)
- Exploring Business
- Work Experience in Business.
Teaching and Assessment
You will gain the relevant experience and skills needed to work within the business world. Expert teaching staff will share their experiences of running businesses of their own.Assessment methods vary on this course, you will complete two external assessments and two internal assessments. To ensure you work to the best of your ability, you will receive written and verbal feedback for all assignments, and continuous assessment throughout the course and you will have timetabled revision slots. Lessons aim to stretch and challenge your knowledge and will include guest speakers and educational visits. Each internally assessed unit normally consists of several assignments. Each assessment can include professional discussions, reports, presentations, case studies and group work. This will enable you to enhance academic and work place skills.

New College Durham has direct links to local and national businesses, and encourages business students to take part in enterprise opportunities. Previous students have thoroughly enjoyed taking part in the Young Enterprise competition as it allows them to get a taste of how to set-up and run a business. The Annual Business Enterprise Day is an opportunity for our business students to gain a wider understanding of enterprise and the world of work. They learn from other people’s experiences, asking questions and making new contacts. The Enterprise day offers a chance for students to network with a range of local and national businesses with a range of guest speakers.
Placement
You will be expected to attend a work placement of 37 hours. The work placement will directly link to a unit within your main programme and enhance the knowledge and skills needed to completed the course. You will be offered support to source your work placement.
You could progress to FdA Business and Management at New College Durham or an apprenticeship.
