FdA Business & Management (part-time)

Standard entry criteria:

• Three GCSEs at a minimum of grade C (4), including maths and English (or Level 2 equivalent)
• Minimum of 32 UCAS Tariff Points (80 UCAS on previous tariff)
• Level 3 Accredited Business Qualification
• An Access to Higher Education course (which includes a business related programme)
• IELTS score of 5.5
• You must be in full-time employment to access this programme.]]]Additional entry criteria:You are still welcome to apply even if you do not possess the standard entry qualifications. Non-standard entry criteria includes the following:[[[Qualifications in non-business management-related areas at Level 3.
• No Level 3 qualifications but evidence of employer references that can support an application with any relevant working experience.
• A personal statement.
• A one-to-one interview.
• Maths and English skills will be accessed through the application process.

You attend a one-to-one interview. The interview will last for 30 minutes. Please bring your personal statement and all relevant qualifications or expected results, if you are still completing your full Level 3 qualification.

This programme is continually being reinvented to reflect the dynamic nature of the business and management sector. It will help you to progress your career or get your foot on the management ladder. You will develop relevant knowledge and understanding of organisations, the business environment in which you operate and their management. The programme will emphasise the dynamic nature of business taking into consideration the changing future of the global business environment.

As a part-time student, you will be given the opportunity to utilise your experience and workplace practice within assignments. You will undertake independent study for modules that are predominantly focused on your work practice, including the innovation and enterprise, personal development and work-related modules. You will also receive support from your tutor.

Our lecturers have industry experience and an extensive range of industry links and contacts to enhance your learning experience and develop your commercial awareness.

• Principles of International Business.

Note: you will only study six modules per year, these will be confirmed at interview, prior to starting the course.

Any times indicated are based on current courses and may be subject to change in future years. Full timetables will be confirmed at the start of each course.

You will be allocated a personal tutor on commencement of the course, who will oversee your progression and provide pastoral support as required. In addition to support from your personal tutor, you will receive academic support from module tutors, if required. You can also request additional guidance from HE Academic Support to help with your studies and gain access to a Personal Learning Coach, if needed. A variety of summative assessment methods are used across the study programme to enable you to demonstrate your knowledge and skills. You will develop the skills required to present your understanding and research coherently. This could include the following:

• Reports
• Presentations
• Professional discussions
• Peer reviews
• Case studies
• Written assignments.

You will complete an assessment for each module, as a vehicle to assess key and transferable skills and learning outcomes. Assessments are mapped to learning outcomes.

This programme has been designed in line with industry intelligence. All modules have been approved by employers. Where possible, visits and guest speakers will be arranged to enhance your learning experience. Through work with the IOEE, the Institute of Enterprise and Entrepreneurs, you will receive a dual certificate, based on the work submitted for the module on Innovation and Enterprise.

At Level 5, you can use your current work experience and work placement to demonstrate and examine your personal career development and progression. This will be logged through a work related learning module to meet the expectations of the course assessment.

You could progress to the BA (Hons) Management (Top-up) degree at New College Durham, to achieve a full honours degree, or you could study a relevant degree at university. Alternatively, you could use the knowledge and transferable skills you have gained through your foundation degree to progress your existing career, or as a stepping stone to a career in banking and the financial sectors, human resource management, marketing or consultancy roles. Good business and management skills are in demand in companies all over the world!
