Entry Criteria
Individual employers will set the recruitment and selection criteria for their Apprenticeships. You will hold four GCSEs at grade 4/C, or equivalent, including maths, English and a science.

Study Aims
This apprenticeship is perfect for you if you would like to progress within the advanced manufacturing engineering and engineering construction sectors.You will carry out metal fabrication work using rolled steel joists, columns, channels, steel plate and metal sheet etc.Work includes manufacturing bridges, oil rigs, ships, petro-chemical installations, cranes, platforms, aircraft, automotive and machinery parts, sheet metal enclosures, equipment supports, and anything that can be fabricated out of metal.

Teaching and Assessment
You will be in college on a three-day release basis in the first year, consisting of lectures and practical workshop delivery.You will be assessed through a portfolio produced against performance evidence criteria gained from a mixture of practical and written evidence.The Development Competence Diploma will be delivered over years 2, 3 and 4 in the workplace by your employer, assisted by a college Apprenticeship Skills Coordinator, and it will be assessed by the completion of a portfolio of naturally occurring evidence, ASC observations and written underpinning knowledge assessments.The Development Knowledge Diploma will be delivered in College on a day release basis in years 2 and 3, consisting of lectures and practical workshop delivery, and will be assessed through a mixture of practical, written and online assessments.You will also complete an End Point Assessment (EPA), completing the following elements:
- Practical observation
- Professional discussion
- Portfolio of evidence.
End Point Assessment
The final assessment for the qualification is an End Point Assessment (EPA) which must be passed to achieve the full qualification.
You could progress to a relevant university level HNC course.
