This course provides those keen to start a career in hairdressing with the skills and hands-on experience necessary for working in the industry. You will work in our on-site salon to build an awareness of health and safety regulations, and develop the advanced skills needed to cut, colour and style hair to create a specific look.

Additional Costs
You will be required to purchase a uniform and kit for your course. Information on prices for these items will be shared at your meet the tutor chat.Additionally, as part of your course you will be expected to pay £20 towards trips and visits and a £5 deposit for a locker.

Study Aims
This course aims to provide you with the skills and knowledge required to be competent in providing a service in the hairdressing industry, and to be able to work independently and carry out consultations with clients.As a stylist you will cover all advanced cutting, colouring and colour correction techniques. You will be encouraged to take part in competitions, enrichment activities and employability workshops throughout the year, to enhance and develop your workplace skills and communication skills.
Modules Studied
You will study the following units:
- Consultation support for colleagues on hair services – you will carry out consultations with clients in salon sessions.
- Cut women's hair to create a variety of looks - you will carry out advanced cutting skills and techniques on clients.
- Style and dress hair using a variety of looks – you will use dressing and styling techniques learnt in the practical sessions to create client looks.
- Creative colouring - you will learn, practice and complete advanced colouring techniques.
- Hair colour correction - you will develop the skills needed to carry out colour correction techniques on the clients in the salon. Bridal hair

- Monday - 1.30pm - 7pm ~Wednesday - 9am - 1pm ~Thursday - 9.30am - 1.30pm ~Friday - 9am - 12noon

Teaching and Assessment
You will work with your tutor to learn the relevant practical skills and theory over the duration of the course for each unit.Practical assessments will be carried out with your tutor once you feel you are ready to be assessed, these assessments will be carried out at various points in the year. Each unit will also include assignments or internal and external exams.You will be required to provide clients and models throughout the year so you can practice the skills you have learnt.

Each term you will engage with external employers through lectures, hands on workshops, role-play interview opportunities, CV development and much more.Our links with industry will ensure you will learn additional skills and improve your confidence levels as you progress at NCD.You will be encouraged to enter competitions, such as WorldSkills and the AHT competition.
Placement
You will be required to undertake a work placement within an external salon for a minimum of 70 hours, to ensure you develop the essential skills to work in this fast paced industry.It is your responsibility to find a work placement, therefore, you can decide whether you want to carry out your placement in a block period of time or one day a week.
You could gain employment within the hairdressing industry, in a salon or self-employed.
