This course is aimed for people aged 19 years or over.
This course provides learners with the advanced practical and theoretical skills required to pursue a successful career in hairdressing.
You will be competent working in a customer based, fast paced environment, and will have acquired hands-on experience of working with real clients in our on-site salon.
Entry Criteria
Ideally, you will hold a relevant Level 2 qualification or will have previous experience working in a hairdressing environment.
You will complete various theory and practical skills tests to establish your suitability to the course.

Study Aims
This course aims to prepare you with the theoretical and practical skills required to work in the hairdressing industry. You will work independently and will carry out consultations with clients.
This will include practising your skills in our on-site salon, and organising an external placement if required. You will be encouraged to develop your employability skills throughout the course and record all evidence of external courses, enrichment and regional and national competitions.
This course aims to provide you with the skills and knowledge required to be competent in providing a service in the hairdressing industry. To be able to work independently and carryout consultations with clients.
As a stylist, you will cover all advanced cutting, colouring and colour correction techniques. If you are employed within the hairdressing industry, you can add any continuous professional development to your employability section within your course portfolios.

Times of Delivery

Any times indicated are based on current courses and may be subject to change in future years. Full timetables will be confirmed at the start of each course.
Teaching and Assessment
The delivery of the programme is covered with one theory session and one practical session which then converts to a client session once all training has been completed.
You will have an assignment and practical assessment for each unit, which will be highlighted by your course tutor and an individual tracker allocated. Practical assessments will be graded pass, merit or distinction based on observation of performance in the salon with paying clients.
Additional support is available through our Personal Learning Coach (PLC) service.

The programme also offers the opportunity to take part in enrichment activities and employability workshops through the year, to enhance and develop your workplace skills and communication skills. You will get involved in the following:

Maths and English
You do not have a requirement to study additional Maths and English, but it is embedded into the vocational aspect of the programme.
Placement
It is advised that you undertake a relevant work placement in a hairdressing salon, however, this is not a mandatory requirement due to the nature of the course. Any work experience or employment can be recorded within your employability booklets and stored within your course portfolio under the employability section.
