The health and social care industry provides physical, emotional and social support to help adults and older people live their lives. This advanced course will provide you with a solid background in health and social care to enable you to progress to further study or a rewarding career in this growing sector.
Entry Criteria
It is a requirement that you have maths and English Language at GCSE grade 4 before starting this course along with two other GCSE results at grade 4 or above.
Additional Costs
All students will be asked to contribute £30 to support study costs that will include programme specific revision and unit guides and any programme trips and visits, to support learning. This money will be paid on commencing the programme.

Teaching and Assessment
Assessment is specifically designed to fit the purpose and objective of the qualification. It includes a range of assessment types and styles suited to vocational qualifications in the sector. There are three main forms of assessment that you need to be aware of: external, internal and synoptic.

Maths and English
It is a requirement that you have maths and English Language at GCSE grade 4 before starting this course along with two other GCSE results at grade 4 or above.
Placement
In order to gain a deeper understanding of the health and social care industry, learners will be required to attend placement in a real work environment to support their learning. The minimum required number of placement hours is 100 in year 1 and 100 in year 2. It is required that all learner will attend regularly as part of the study programme, and complete and evidence a portfolio of their experience.

You could progress to a foundation degree or an honours degree, in a related subject area, at New College Durham or university. Alternatively you could prepare for a rewarding career in health and social care in a wide variety of roles such as youth and community worker, care assistant, support worker or social work assistant.
