This course is aimed at professionals working in the housing sector, responsible for the overseeing and management of social housing and their customers. Programme delivery will follow a 'blended' approach, that is traditional in-person teaching and digital initiatives. Designed to ensure you are fully compliant with the Social Housing (Regulations) Act 2023, you will be able to benefit from the professional development opportunities offered. The programme meets the full professional requirements of the Chartered Institute of Housing (CIH), meaning you will gain the knowledge and skills relevant and responsive to the needs of employers and customers in this specialist sector. On successful completion, you become eligible to become a certified practitioner CertCIH. Please note the course may be subject to change.
Entry Criteria
New College recognise that students may have gained the necessary knowledge, understanding and skills from prior experience or learning that will be relevant to this programme of study and fulfill the standard entry requirements. Such admission is discretionary and would normally involve an interview.

There are no additional course fees as registration with the CIH for the duration of the programme is included.

You will attend a group interview and information event. You will be provided with infiormation, advice and guidance as to whether the programme is suitable for your ability and career goals. On arrival, please report to NCD University Centre reception.
Study Aims
This programme aims to provide challenging, stimulating and vocationally relevant content which meets the development needs of housing organisations and professionals. It will help you develop and consolidate the knowledge, skills and behaviours required to satisfy housing employers, the standards of the Chartered Institute of Housing and the Social Housing (Regulation) Act 2023.
Modules Studied
Housing Policy - develop knowledge and understanding of historical and current context in which housing operates and the relationship between different policy making bodies and their policy making processes.
Finance for Housing - learn about the macro-economic framework and how housing is funded across tenures, how it operates and how this links to policy.
Housing Law - provide an understanding of the legal system in relation to housing and the application of law to housing practice, examining the rights and responsibilities of landlord and tenant.
Professional Practice Skills for Housing - develop the understanding and skills to progress at management level in housing. Learn to relate individual skills and performance to the effectiveness of the organisation and how ethical practice and ethical behaviour relate to professional practice skills.
Housing Management Services - learn about the key functions of housing management services. Learners will also consider approaches to how individuals’ access housing.
Housing Need, Demand and Supply - develop knowledge of the national, regional and local demographic profile and understand the impact of this, and socio-economic factors have on housing need, demand, and supply.

Assessments are designed to enable you to demonstrate your knowledge understanding and skills throughout the duration of the programme. You will be encouraged to meet your full potential. Assessment methods include professional discussions, written report, case study, area profile presentation, and submission of a portfolio. There are no examinations.

Placement
There are no formal work placement requirements.
What else?
You will be registered as a member of the CIH for the duration of this course and on completion can become a Certified Practitioner of CIH.
You could progress to the Level 5 Diploma in Housing on completion of this course.
