Prepare for a career in the fast-paced food and beverage industry.
You will gain an understanding of the principles of supervising food and beverage services, customer service performance, and food safety.
You may also develop food service skills, such as carving, filleting, cooking and serving dishes, as well as barista skills, and preparing and serving wine and cocktails.
Entry Criteria
You will hold four GCSEs at grade 4, including maths and English, a Level 2 Professional Food and Beverage or two or more years working in industry.

You will need to purchase a uniform which will cost in the region of £100. You may be entitled to a bursary which will cover these costs.

Study Aims
This food and beverage service supervision course will allow you to learn, develop and practice the skills needed to progress to further study or secure a job in the sector.
This practical qualification covers all aspects of food and beverage service supervision. You will gain an understanding of the role and expectations, and will develop the key practical skills and knowledge needed for the food, beverage and front of house industry.

- Principles of supervising food and beverage services
- The principles of food safety supervision for catering
- Principles of promoting food and beverage services and products
- Principles of supervising customer service performance in hospitality, leisure, travel and tourism
- Supervise food and beverage service
- Legislation in food and beverage service
Optional units:
- Barista skills
- Carve, fillet, joint and serve food in a food service area
- Prepare, cook and serve food in a food service area
- Prepare and serve wines
- Prepare and serve alcoholic and cold non-alcoholic beverages
- Provide advice to customers on food and beverage matching
- Supervise hospitality events
- Prepare and serve cocktails
Times of Delivery
- Monday - 9am - 4pm
- Tuesday - 9am - 4pm
- Wednesday - 9am - 4pm
- Thursday - 9am - 4pm
- Friday - 9am - 4pm
Evening hours may also be included to cover practical sessions in the training restaurant.

Teaching and Assessment
You will complete short answer exam papers, observational assessments and written assessments.

Placement
You must complete a 45 day placement to gain an insight into the industry and real-life experience working in a restaurant environment.
You could progress to a Level 4 in Hospitality Management at New College Durham, or a relevant course at university.
Alternatively, you could secure a full-time role in the food and beverage industry.
