Age 16-18

FREE (If meet residency criteria and not enrolled at another educational institution).

If you are aged 16, 17 or 18 on 31 August in the year you begin your course, not enrolled at another educational institution and have been resident in the UK for the past 3 years, your course will be FREE. Some courses will have other costs associated, such as for materials and trips.

Age 19+

If you are aged 19 or older on 31 August in the year you begin your course, not enrolled at another educational institution and have been resident in the UK for the past 3 years, your course could be free dependant on the level of the course and your eligibility criteria. Student Finance

If you are aged 19 or over and not eligible to get your course free, you could apply for an Advanced Learner Loan from the Student Loans Company to help towards the cost of some, or all, of your fees. If the amount of Advanced Learner Loan available to you is less than the Advanced Learner Loan Fee for your course, you would need to pay the difference. This course aims to provide you with the practical skills and knowledge needed for a range of careers in the sports industry, with a focus upon sports coaching and development.

Prepare for employment within the industry or further study by gaining vital skills and techniques, personal qualities and attitudes to succeed. This will be achieved through the development of key transferable skills such as, leadership, coaching, decision making, collaboration, teamwork, communication, active reflection, planning and problem-solving skills.

Entry Criteria

4 GCSEs at grade 4 or above, including English and maths

Additional Costs

You will be expected to purchase stationery, such as a notebook, pens and pencil.

You will need clothing which must be comfortable and suitable for practical sessions.

You will be asked to contribute £30 at the start of the year for trips and visits.

What are the next steps?

At the interview stage, you will attend a group presentation, to get more information about the course and to discuss the College’s expectations. You will then have a one-to-one chat with a member of the sports team. You will be asked a range of questions during your one-to-one so we can find out more about you, your interests, and your strengths.

Modules Studied

You will complete a range of mandatory and optional units:

Careers in the Sport and Active Leisure Industry Health, Wellbeing and Sport Developing Coaching Skills Applied Coaching Skills Self-Employment in Sport and Physical Activity Sports Development Research Project in Sport

Plus, some optional modules selected from the following units; Fitness Testing Nutrition for Physical Performance Sports Psychology Practical Spors Application

Your timetable will be confirmed at the start of term, however this will usually be over 4 days.

Teaching and Assessment

Our expert tutors will share their experiences of working within the sports sector to ensure you gain the relevant experience and skills needed to work within the sports industry.

You will complete a range of practical and theory-based assessments. Throughout the course, you will receive written and verbal feedback for all assignments. You will also receive continuous support and opportunities to reflect on your progress to make sure you achieve your goals.
