Completion of this course will mean you possess the fundamental knowledge and skills required to pursue and progress into a career of beauty therapy.
You will develop the skills needed to perform basic manicures, basic facials, apply make-up effectively and demonstrate skills in nail art techniques.
You will gain hands-on experience working with real-life clients during your work placement at an external salon, and during your practical sessions in the college’s on-site salon, Halo.
Entry Criteria
You will provide evidence that you hold GCSE at grade 2 or above in maths, and a grade 2 or above in English Language.
Additionally, you will need to be working at Entry 3 for maths and English when you undertake your BKSB when you start college.

Additional Costs
You will be required to purchase a uniform and kit for your course. Information on prices for these items will be shared at your meet the tutor chat.
Additionally, as part of your course you will be expected to pay £30 towards trips and visits and a £5 deposit for a locker.

Study Aims

- Practical skills – to enable you to perform manicures, facials, nail art and apply make-up

Teaching and Assessment
You will be assigned a personal tutor for the duration of your course.
You will carry out practical assessments with your tutor once you feel you are ready to be assessed. The assessments will be carried out at various points in the year on clients in our realistic salon. Each unit will involve assignments and/or internal and external exams.
You will be required to carry out treatments in our realistic salon,working on clients so that you can maximise your learning and explore the skills you have been learning.

These opportunities will ensure you will learn additional skills and improve your confidence levels throughout the course. We will encourage you to enter competitions, such as World skills and the AHT competition.
Placement
You will be required to undertake a work placement within an external salon for a minimum of 70 hours, to ensure you develop the essential skills to work in this fast paced industry. It is your responsibility to find a work placement, therefore, you can decide whether you want to carry out your placement in a block period of time or one day a week.
You could progress to a relevant Level 2 programme at New College Durham.
