A huge congratulations to Level 1 Award in Preparing to Work in Adult Social Care student, Cerys, for receiving the Against All Odds NCFE Aspirations Award for her determination to pursue her dream career.
Faye Guy, Course Tutor, said:
“Cerys is a truly remarkable young lady who has overcome immense personal challenges. I nominated Cerys for the Against All Odds award to recognise her outstanding perseverance and will to complete the course despite facing complex medical, physical and communication difficulties.”
Cerys has cerebral palsy which has affected her lower limbs, and she requires 1-1 assistance to move around college as she is partially sighted.
Faye continued:
“Cerys has been determined to fully experience college and over time has grown in confidence and independence to spend more time with her peers outside of class.”
Experiencing setbacks at school due to needing a kidney transplant, Cerys has made excellent academic progress, demonstrating her resilience. On track to pass the Level 1, Cerys has a conditional offer to study Level 2 Extended Diploma in Health and Social Care.
“Unbelievably, Cery’s time in hospital has not stopped her from aspiring to provide care for others. She wants to give something back which is inspiring.”
Cerys will be presented with her award at the health and social care end of year Celebration of Achievement on 23 June, as well as a prize of up to £100 to support her with her future learning at NCD.
Cerys is continuing her academic journey at New College Durham where she will undoubtedly go on to achieve even greater success.
