Matthew Canning Wyn Construction engineering 2023Engineering Technician Apprentice, Matthew Canning, is completing his Level 3 apprenticeship with Wyn Construction.

Matthew is currently working on the Net Park Phase 3a project in Sedgefield – Wyn Construction have been appointed by Kier to deliver the groundworks and hard landscaping works. This project is Wyn Construction’s biggest live job, with an overall package value in excess of £9million.

The works package includes the installation of the reinforced concrete foundations, precast concrete beams, extensive block paved external areas with over 395 permeable car parking bays and interconnecting paved footpaths, and site wide foul and surface water drainage systems, including attenuation tanks and swales.

The installation of the reinforced concrete foundations for the first few buildings has commenced and Matthew has started setting out and installing the structural steelwork hold down bot jigs that are cast into the foundation ahead of the steelwork contractor starting.

Matthew has been preparing the design, setting it out using AutoCAD and inputting the coordinates data into the total station. Working with the concrete gang and joiners, Matthew has been onsite to set out the jigs position within the foundations using the local grid reference points.

Greg Morgan, Wyn Senior Project Engineer and Matthew’s mentor, said:

“Matthew is reliable and takes onboard everything I say. He is keen to learn and I know Matthew will be a really good asset to the team for the future.”

Matthew is settling in really well and is really enthusiastic about the work he is doing. We wish him all the best.
