New College Durham is delighted to announce that we have been nominated for a further two prestigious regional awards. The BUSINESSiQ Awards celebrate the teamwork and support the region is renowned for and the pure business success that it is generating.

The college has been shortlisted in two categories recognising its outstanding work with regard to both Employee Health & Wellbeing and Diversity and Inclusion

NCD has already had an incredible year of success with excellent student outcomes, award-winning students, staff and initiatives, financial growth, campus expansion and pioneering projects. All of which enables the college to continue its significant impact on individuals, businesses and the region.

Health and wellbeing are recognised strategic priorities and very much reflected in the college’s core values of respect and inclusion. The college has undertaken a 5-year journey, supported by a partnership with Pioneering Care Partnership, to deliver initiatives aimed at achieving ‘Better Health at Work’

Recently, an independent assessor for Better Health a Work noted:

“It is clear to see that they [NCD] have truly embraced the ethos of Health and Wellbeing in the workplace and considered how the environment impacts upon staff wellbeing, making a number of changes aligned to the feedback received. It was a pleasure to see the progress that they had made.”

New College Durham also partnered with trusted community organisations such as Sunderland Bangladesh International Centre (SBIC) and Nur Ladies Fitness Centre Middlesbrough (Nur) to reach underrepresented groups by extending education beyond traditional classrooms and into diverse communities.Training is delivered in accessible community settings such as mosques, community and women’s centres, transforming access to education for individuals who might otherwise remain outside the education system. Delivering education within community settings reduces barriers such as transportation issues and cultural differences, making learning opportunities accessible and inviting.

Winners will be announced early in April.
