In just the second year for T-Levels, and the first year for some new T Level subjects, New College Durham is proud to be at the forefront of the ground-breaking T-Level qualification that launched in 2020, with an increased cohort of students completing their studies in 2023.
The T Level students have triumphed with 100% pass rate in four of the T-Level subjects, with an impressive 66% of students achieving high grades.
New College Durham's T-Level Health students are one of the first cohorts in the country to study this qualification. They have secured exciting places at universities including Sunderland, Northumbria, Teesside, Edge Hill and Manchester, pursuing paths such as Adult Nursing, Nurse Paramedic (Adult) and Midwifery, and some students are progressing to NCD University Centre’s new Foundation Degree in Healthcare Practice.
Charlotte Varley has secured a place at Manchester University to study Midwifery. Charlotte said: “The first year was really challenging as we had to learn all the theory. Both years were amazing, I loved the practical side of the course and we received fantastic support.”
In T-Level Construction, an impressive 100% of students achieved a merit grade, paving the way for them to embark on promising careers with organisations such as Durham County Council.
One remarkable student undertook an industry placement with Esh Group, contributing to the construction of NCD’s brand new Technical and Higher Education Hub set to open in September 2023. Esh Group's recognition of this student's talent and potential has led to a Level 4 Higher Apprenticeship in Quantity Surveying at New College Durham.
In a similar vein, another student's exceptional work ethic during an industry placement with Jasper Kerr Consulting Engineers has led to him securing full-time employment with the same employer.
The accomplishments extend to T-Level Digital programs, where students in Digital Production Design Development achieved 100% qualification rate, with further opportunities awaiting them with apprenticeships and further study at New College Durham and other universities such as Northumbria, Staffordshire and Buckinghamshire.
New College Durham is equally thrilled with the achievements of its A-Level students, whose remarkable success is a testament to their hard work and commitment. An impressive 98% of A-Level students passed their qualifications, with 37% achieving high grades.
Students achieved a 100% pass rate in 14 subjects and 33% attained high grades, maintaining the standard set in 2019, as we compare to pre-pandemic grades nationally.
The future is undoubtedly bright for these accomplished students as they move on to prestigious universities such as Edinburgh, Manchester, and Sheffield to pursue a diverse range of subjects including medicine and history.
Esther Rankgate is progressing to Sheffield University. Esther said: “I enjoyed my two years with NCD. I really appreciated the excellent support I received, my tutors motivated me to reach my goals to study a medical physics degree.”
Alison Maynard, Deputy Principal at New College Durham, expressed pride in the students' achievements, stating: "On this Level Three Results Day, we acknowledge the remarkable accomplishments of our students across diverse educational pathways. Their dedication and resilience have led to well-deserved achievements, and we extend our gratitude to our dedicated staff whose unwavering support has been instrumental in their success. Witnessing these triumphs is a source of immense pride for our entire educational community."
