NCD is the only North East college in the top 10% nationally for both Further Education (FE) and Apprenticeships. In addition, NCD is also the top performing college in the North East for adult provision and nationally is in the top 5% with only two colleges gaining higher achievement rates. The college also lands in the top 10% in the country for FE 16-18 achievement rates.

We are fiercely proud of our achievements and aim to build on this success by continuing to deliver outstanding outcomes for both students and stakeholders. Our vision is to be the premier provider of Further and Higher Education in the North East, and this report unequivocally shows that we are delivering on that vision.
For our apprenticeship programmes, we engage proactively with employers to pinpoint the skills required by the local, regional, and national economy. This approach not only delivers benefits to our learners but also guarantees that our curriculum is designed and delivered to ensure that learners and apprentices acquire the skills essential for their future careers. “
In addition to numerous regional and national awards, including The North East Chamber of Commerce Larger Business of the Year award, North East Apprenticeship Awards award for Training Provider/Programme of the Year and Medium Training Provider of the Year at this year’s Association of Accounting Technicians (AAT) Training Provider Awards, the recently unveiled achievement rates serve as the latest proof of NCD's stellar success, building on the accolades already received.
Alison Maynard, Deputy Principal of New College Durham, added: "We are immensely proud of our exceptional achievement rates for the 2023/24 academic year.
These results are a resounding testament to the dedication and hard work of our students, staff, and partners. As we celebrate these remarkable accomplishments, we remain committed to becoming a focus for local, regional, and national educational excellence by the providing game-changing education, skills, and training.”
The next step for New College Durham is the expected completion, by Easter 2025, of a brand-new, all-weather, multi-use games area on their Framwellgate Moor campus. The college is already committed to developing sporting opportunities for the whole community with facilities currently including a full-size sports hall, 2 first class football pitches, an extensive air-conditioned fitness suite, exercise studio all with full changing facilities. This new £4.5million development is planned to continue to deliver huge benefits for both students and the local community for many years to come.
